Wayback Wednesday Series - Jikū Tantei Genshi-kun (Flint the Time Detective)

These cute creatures here are the Time Shifters. They are cute, even if you die in seconds because of cute.

If you want to go back in time to relive history, then you had to watch Flint the Time Detective (or Jiku Tantei Genshi-kun). It was watched in the afternoons on Philippine television back then, it was definitely my favorite anime back then. The series also have a that is published by Kodansha in Comic Bom Bom Magazine, from 1999 to 2000 with just only three volumes in total. The anime runs from October 1st, 1998 to June 24th, 1999, with 39 episodes in total. And it's directed by Hiroshi Fukutomi, who is known for directing Captain Tsubasa J and Suzuka, and it was produced by Group TAC, which was known for producing several anime including Street Fighter II V, Those Who Hunt Elves, Hare Tokidoki Buta (or Sunny Pig), Super Doll Licca-chan, Grappler Baki, and Black Blood Brothers.

The strong, young caveboy that is Flint (Genshi).
The anime is centered around the adventures of a boy from the prehistoric era named Genshi (or Flint Hammerhead), who was resurrected from a fossil and later became a Time Detective, but although his competency as a detective is simply dubious. Yes, much like Inspector Gadget, so much of the heavy thinking is partially done by Genshi's friends, the Yamato twins led by Sora and Tokio (Sarah and Tony Goodman in the English dub), who accompany him on his time travelling adventures, from the conqueror Napoléon Bonaparte to Yang Guifei, the beloved consort of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang and one of Ancient China's Four Beauties. However, Genshi pulled his weight in battle, when he would fight with the aid of Dad-tan (Rocky Hammerhead), whose partial resurrection left him a sentient, talking rock with a face. Later, Dad-tan, is fashioned into a hammer for his son, served him as both a adviser and a sturdy weapon, latter both in and out of battle. Genshi's job as a Time Detective was to go back in tome and convince cute, collectible creatures that are called Time Shifters to ally with him to protect the timeline against the Dark Lord and his minions, Akira Aino aka Time Pilfer Lady (Petra Fina Dagmar/Ms. Iknow) and Mr. Dino (Dino Fishman) and a experimental frog lackey named Principal Mite. There is a dhampir member of the Time Police and a crush on Sora named Kyoichiro Narugami (Merlock Holmes) and his Time Shifter, Bindi.

From L to R: Petra Fina Dagmar (the green haired one) and her minions, Merlock Holmes, Dr. Bernard (Prof. Yamato) and his children, Tokio and Sora (Tony and Sarah).
The caveman/Time Detective, Genshi, is voiced by Yukiji. You know about her as the voice behind Yatch in Mirmo Zibang!, Plue and Ruby in Groove Adventure Rave, and Crayonman from Anpanman. Before she became famous as a singer-songwriter, and taken up her famous roles such as Hinata Hyuga in Naruto, Aria in Sister Princess, Rue Kuroha in Princess Tutu, Fate Testarossa in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and her Pretty Cure role as Tsubomi Hanasaki/Cure Blossom in HeartCatch Pretty Cure, Nana Mizuki plays Sora Yamato. Chiaki Morita, who played Tokio, is known for her career as Slash Kamei in Snowboard Kids series and Takumi in Brave Exkaiser. Dad-tan is voiced by none other than Fumihiko Tachiki, who is known for voicing Zaraki Kenpachi in Bleach, Don Krieg and Akainu in One Piece, and his famous role: Gendou Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion (Can you ever imagine a stone hammer is the commander of NERV?!). Other voice actors are starred here that includes Chinami Nishimura (she will later on voicing Reika Aoki/Cure Beauty in Smile Pretty Cure), Masamichi Sato, Mami Nakajima, Kappei Yamaguchi, Katsumi Suzuki, Toshiyuki Morikawa (Yes he starred as the Dark Lord), Yumi Touma, Yuji Ueda, Chafurin, Wataru Takagi, Takuma Suzuki and many more. The English adaptation of this anime is so awesome and the English voice cast are amazing, even if you know the voices when you played the Warriors beat-em-up game series (one of them, the late Bob Papenbrook, who played Zhang Fei in Dynasty Warriors 4 and 5, plays Rocky).

So, if want to join with the time-travelling caveman and his friends, then go back in time to relive and watch Flint the Time Detective!
