I am going to use that kettle to travel back through December 2012 to dodge JuanMa Marquez's 'lucky punch!' from Pacquiao! |
This is really it, this will be the final 'Wayback Wednesday' post before 2015 starts.
Did you remember when you activate a kettle-like time machine that can travel through time, Time Travel Tondekeman has the good spots for you.
As you can see, it was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and Akira Sugino, while Junki Takegami does the written work. It was produced by Masao Takiyama, the network president of Animax. The anime was broadcasted by Fuji TV in Japan on October 19th, 1989 (it was 25 years ago two months earlier when this anime is first aired), to August 26th, 1990 with a total of 39 episodes on its resume. The anime was first aired twenty years ago in the Philippines entitled 'Time Quest' by IBC-13, and it was rerunned on ABC-5 (later called TV5) in 1999. The anime is also aired in Indonesia's channel, Indosiar during 1995, and it was re-runned since 2008 by Space Toon Indonesia.
The anime starts when two high school students: a soccer enthusiast named Hayato Shindou, and an aspiring musician/girlfriend named Yumi Arama, went to a visit at the laboratory of Dr. Leonardo. But evertything turned from bad to worse when Hayato and Yumi are accidentally activated a funny talking kettle time machine named Tondekeman, who transported them many centuries in the past. In Baghdad, the two are reunited, but they got separated again from the talking kettle (it's your fault!). Then they met Aladdin, Prince Dandam and Princess Shalala. And they also met the cunning Abdullah (not to be confused with the WWE Hall of Famer, Abdullah the Butcher), who he, is always ready to kidnap the princess so that he could marry the princess to his master. Oh, you are so rude Abdullah. Through many of the episodes, Hayato and Yumi are get to go to different places and times and meet several historical figures. And of course, Hayato and Yumi are stuck in the past until they retrieve Tondekeman from Abdullah's possession.
Some of the legendary seiyuu are featured and starred in this anime, that includes Yūji Mitsuya as Hayato, Kumiko Nishihara as Yumi, Shigeru Chiba as the talking kettle and Dr. Leonardo, Prince Dandam is voiced by Akira Kamiya, who provided him as Kenshiro in Fist of the North Star and Detective Conan's Kogoro Mori (his role is known for years until he is succeeded by Rikiya Koyama). Rei Sakuma as the princess, Yuko Mita (Urusei Yatsura's Benten) as Aladdin, the late Junpei Takiguchi (Yatterman's Dokurobei) as Abdullah, and the late Shigezō Sasaoka (Gasten in Blue Comet SPT Layzner) as the Genie of the Lamp.
Relive some time travel adventures with Hayato and Yumi in Time Travel Tondekeman. And to close it now, HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM GALLERIA DE LA GUARDIA!
